01Choose your Class M path
Wyoming identifies two routes to a Class M motorcycle license. Riders age 15 or older may take WYDOT’s Basic RiderCourse. Successful completion waives Class M testing when the completion card is presented to Driver Services within two years. Applicants who do not use the course waiver can contact a Driver Services office to arrange the written and motorcycle skills tests. Because the route you choose changes what you need to present and which tests you take, confirm your path before scheduling an exam or course.
02Prepare for direct testing
For direct testing, study the Wyoming motorcycle material and be ready for a motorcycle skills test. WYDOT says the skills-test motorcycle must be street legal, licensed, registered, insured, and in good working condition. Required rider gear includes a properly fitting helmet, eye protection, sturdy gloves, long sleeves or a jacket, full-length pants, and sturdy closed-toe footwear covering the ankles. The skills test includes a cone weave, normal stop, turns, a U-turn, quick stop, and obstacle swerve.
03Use the practice bank effectively
The bank mixes general road knowledge with motorcycle-specific riding judgment. Work through explanations even when you answer correctly, then review weak topics such as lane position, visibility, braking, cornering, passenger and cargo control, impairment, and emergency maneuvers. Wyoming’s motorcycle safety laws also matter: motorcycles are entitled to a full lane, lane splitting is prohibited, and three or more motorcycles may not ride abreast in one lane. Riders and passengers under 18 must wear approved, securely fastened protective headgear.
04Understand scope and review status
Wyoming’s Class M classification covers motorcycles and three-wheel trikes. It may be added to another valid license class or issued as the only class when the applicant has no other license classification. This page summarizes current official guidance checked on September 26, 2026, while the practice questions remain draft content pending independent editorial review. Requirements can change, and individual circumstances may affect testing or licensing steps, so use the linked WYDOT sources to confirm details before an appointment or course.
