Vermont Motorcycle Practice Questions and Endorsement Guide

Use this Vermont motorcycle practice set to review the rules and riding concepts represented in the saved 100-question bank. It covers road signs, right-of-way, lane use, turning, speed, hazardous conditions, sharing the road, impaired and distracted riding, emergencies, licensing responsibilities, protective gear, controls, visibility, riding techniques, passengers and cargo, and group riding. The 100-question format belongs to this study resource and does not represent the size of Vermont’s official motorcycle knowledge exam. Vermont DMV currently describes a 25-question multiple-choice endorsement exam with an 80 percent passing standard, followed by a skills exam unless an approved rider-training waiver applies. Use the guide below to separate practice-bank coverage from the state’s actual permit and endorsement requirements.

LICENSING GUIDE

What to know before you test

Use this overview together with the latest official guidance linked below.

01

Know the Vermont endorsement test sequence

Vermont DMV’s motorcycle endorsement page says the standard endorsement path starts with a 25-question multiple-choice knowledge exam based on the motorcycle manual. A score of 80 percent or better is required. After passing the knowledge exam, the applicant must successfully complete a motorcycle skills exam before the endorsement is issued. If the knowledge exam is failed, DMV requires at least a one-day wait before another attempt. If the skills exam is failed, a one-week practice period is required before retesting. The motorcycle used for the skills exam must also be properly equipped, registered, inspected when required, insured, and in good mechanical condition.

02

Use the motorcycle learner permit within its limits

A Vermont licensed resident who does not yet have a motorcycle endorsement may obtain a motorcycle learner permit after passing the online permit exam. DMV says the permit is valid for 120 days and may be renewed only twice. The permit is for practice on public highways, but the rider may operate only during daylight hours, may not carry passengers, and may use the permit only in Vermont. DMV also instructs permit holders to carry their valid Vermont driver’s license, motorcycle learner permit, and insurance card whenever they ride. Ignoring the permit restrictions voids the permit.

03

Account for age and application requirements

Vermont’s motorcycle learner-permit process assumes the applicant is already a Vermont licensed resident. DMV specifically states that a 16- or 17-year-old who holds a valid Junior Driver’s License must have a parent or legal guardian sign the Motorcycle Learner Permit Application. After the permit is issued, the rider may schedule a skills-test appointment. Because eligibility depends on the underlying Vermont driver credential and the applicant’s age, younger riders should confirm that their driver license remains valid and that the required signature is complete before submitting the motorcycle permit application.

04

Consider the Vermont Rider Education Program

Vermont DMV offers the Vermont Rider Education Program as another route to an endorsement. The Basic RiderCourse is designed for novice or returning riders and combines an online course with on-motorcycle exercises. DMV states that successful completion exempts a student from the Vermont motorcycle written and skills tests required for a motorcycle endorsement. The Intermediate RiderCourse – License Waiver is aimed at riders with some experience, including permit holders seeking an endorsement, and successful completion also provides the written-and-skills-test waiver. Training is separate from this 100-question practice bank, so applicants should use current DMV course information when deciding which licensing path fits them.
