New Jersey Class B CDL Practice Questions and License Guide

This New Jersey Class B CDL practice page is built around the 100 questions currently saved in the bank. The mixed set covers general knowledge plus air brakes, hazardous materials, tank vehicles, passenger, and school bus material. Those specialty sections are study coverage, not a claim that every Class B applicant needs every endorsement or test. New Jersey applicants must follow the MVC commercial licensing process, while federal Entry-Level Driver Training rules apply to specified first-time CDL and endorsement transactions. Use the questions to review the actual saved topics, then use the guide below to distinguish the basic Class B path from conditional endorsement, age, medical, and training requirements.

LICENSING GUIDE

What to know before you test

Use this overview together with the latest official guidance linked below.

01

Confirm that Class B matches the vehicle you plan to operate

New Jersey Class B covers a single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more. It also covers a vehicle rated at 26,001 pounds or more towing a trailer rated at 10,000 pounds or less, and a bus rated at 26,001 pounds or more that is designed to carry 16 or more people including the driver. A Class B holder may also operate Class C and Class D vehicles when the required endorsements are held. This practice bank therefore excludes the Class A combination-vehicle and doubles/triples modules; air-brake, tank, hazardous-materials, passenger, and school-bus material applies only when the equipment or privilege is relevant to the intended operation.

02

Prepare the New Jersey application and identity documents

MVC says a New Jersey CDL applicant must be at least 18, hold a basic New Jersey Class D driver license, and meet the applicable citizenship or lawful-permanent-resident requirement. Applicants complete the commercial driver license application and bring the required 6 Points of ID materials, including the Social Security card, proof of address, and proof of legal presence. CLP and CDL drivers also complete CDL Holder Self-Certification, and medical certification must be on file when the selected commerce category requires it. MVC currently receives required medical-exam results electronically through the federal National Registry process, so applicants should check the current MVC medical guidance before a transaction.

03

Move from knowledge testing to the CLP and Class B skills test

After obtaining the commercial examination test receipt, the applicant takes the knowledge test or tests required for the class and endorsements sought. Passing the required knowledge testing leads to a Commercial Learner’s Permit. Unless a waiver applies, New Jersey requires the CLP to be held for at least 14 days before skills testing, and the applicant must bring a vehicle that represents the class of CDL sought. A first-time Class B applicant who is subject to federal Entry-Level Driver Training must complete the applicable training with a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry before the skills test. First-time passenger, school-bus, and hazardous-materials endorsements have separate ELDT triggers; hazardous-materials training is completed before its knowledge test.

04

Separate Class B licensing from conditional endorsements and restrictions

The 100 questions on this page are original practice material organized around the modules actually present in the saved bank; they are not official MVC test questions and the module distribution is not a promise of the live exam blueprint. Air-brake operation is not a separate New Jersey endorsement, but a driver who does not complete the required air-brake testing can receive an air-brake restriction. Tank, hazardous-materials, passenger, and school-bus privileges have additional testing or eligibility rules, and applicants under 21 are limited to intrastate commerce and cannot receive hazardous-materials or passenger endorsements. Review weak areas against the current New Jersey Commercial Driver License Manual and verify the exact endorsements and restrictions needed for the vehicle and job you plan to perform.

tests

First-time New Jersey Class B CDL applicants and applicants seeking covered endorsements

Applicants take the required CDL knowledge test or tests to receive a CLP, generally hold the CLP for at least 14 days before skills testing, complete applicable federal Entry-Level Driver Training, and then take the CDL skills test in a vehicle representing the class sought. Federal ELDT also applies to a first passenger or school-bus endorsement before the skills test and to a first hazardous-materials endorsement before its knowledge test.

passing

New Jersey CDL applicants taking the required knowledge and skills tests

MVC issues the Commercial Learner’s Permit after the applicant passes the required CDL knowledge test or tests, and issues the CDL after the applicant passes the required skills test and satisfies the other applicable licensing requirements.

applicability

New Jersey Class B applicants and drivers studying endorsement-specific material

Class B applies to a single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 pounds or more, a vehicle of that rating towing a trailer rated at 10,000 pounds or less, or a bus of that rating designed for 16 or more people including the driver. Class B also permits operation of Class C and D vehicles when required endorsements are held; specialty requirements are conditional on the vehicle or operation.
