New Jersey Class A CDL Practice Questions and License Guide

This New Jersey Class A CDL practice page is built around the 100 questions currently saved in the bank. The mixed set includes general knowledge plus air brakes, combination vehicles, hazardous materials, tank vehicles, doubles and triples, passenger, and school bus material. Those specialty sections are study coverage, not a claim that every Class A applicant needs every endorsement or test. New Jersey requires applicants to follow the MVC commercial licensing process, while federal Entry-Level Driver Training rules apply to specified first-time CDL and endorsement transactions. Use the questions to review the actual saved topics, then use the guide below to distinguish the basic Class A path from conditional endorsement, age, medical, and training requirements.

LICENSING GUIDE

What to know before you test

Use this overview together with the latest official guidance linked below.

01

Confirm that Class A matches the vehicle you plan to operate

New Jersey defines Class A for a tractor trailer or a truck-and-trailer combination with a gross combination weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more when the towed vehicle is rated over 10,000 pounds. A Class A holder may also operate Class B and Class C commercial vehicles when the required endorsements are held. The specialty modules in this practice bank are therefore conditional. Air-brake, tank, doubles/triples, hazardous-materials, passenger, and school-bus rules matter only when the equipment or privilege applies to the driver’s intended operation. Applicants under 21 are limited to intrastate commerce and may not receive hazardous-materials or passenger endorsements.

02

Prepare the New Jersey application and identity documents

MVC says a New Jersey CDL applicant must be at least 18, hold a basic New Jersey Class D driver license, and meet its citizenship or lawful-permanent-resident requirement. For the commercial examination process, applicants complete the commercial driver license application and bring the required 6 Points of ID materials, including the Social Security card, proof of address, and proof of legal presence. CLP and CDL drivers also complete the CDL Holder Self-Certification document, and a medical examiner certificate must be on file when the applicant’s certification category requires one. MVC’s general 6 Points page should be checked before the visit because acceptable identity and residency documents can change.

03

Move from knowledge testing to the CLP and skills test

After the applicant obtains the commercial examination test receipt, MVC administers the knowledge test or tests needed for the class and endorsements sought. Passing the required knowledge test results in issuance of a Commercial Learner’s Permit. Unless a waiver applies, New Jersey requires the CLP to be held for at least 14 days before the CDL skills test. A first-time Class A applicant who is subject to federal Entry-Level Driver Training must complete the applicable training with a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry before the skills test. First-time passenger, school-bus, and hazardous-materials endorsements have their own ELDT triggers, with hazardous-materials training required before its knowledge test.

04

Treat this mixed bank as study coverage, not an official exam blueprint

MVC issues the CDL after the applicant passes the required skills test. The 100 questions on this page are original practice material organized around the topics and modules actually present in the saved bank; they are not official MVC questions and the 30-plus-specialty distribution is not a promise of the live test format. Review weak areas against the current New Jersey Commercial Driver License Manual, and verify which endorsements and restrictions apply to the vehicle used for testing and the work you intend to perform. This is especially important for air-brake, passenger, school-bus, tank, hazardous-materials, and doubles/triples privileges because separate tests, training, or restrictions may apply.
