Connecticut Class B CDL Practice Questions and Study Guide

Use these 100 Connecticut Class B CDL practice questions to review the subjects represented in the saved bank: general knowledge, air brakes, hazardous materials, tank vehicles, passenger vehicles, and school buses. Each item includes four answer choices and an explanation, but this practice format is not the official Connecticut exam format or question count. Class B applicants prepare for general knowledge, while air-brake and endorsement-specific testing applies only when the vehicle, equipment, cargo, or intended operation makes it relevant. Connecticut applicants should also confirm current commercial learner's permit identity, medical, self-certification, Clearinghouse, ELDT, and skills-test requirements before relying on any study aid. Combination Vehicles and Doubles/Triples are not treated as routine Class B modules in this bank.

LICENSING GUIDE

What to know before you test

Use this overview together with the latest official guidance linked below.

01

Confirm that Class B matches the vehicle you plan to drive

Connecticut Class B covers a single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, including a qualifying Class B vehicle towing another vehicle with a GVWR of 10,000 pounds or less. The basic Class B path centers on General Knowledge. Air Brakes applies when the vehicle is equipped with air brakes. Passenger, school bus, tank, and hazardous-materials testing applies only when the applicant seeks the corresponding operation or endorsement. Combination Vehicles and Doubles/Triples are not routine Class B modules, so this practice bank excludes them while still covering conditional Class B specialties.

02

Meet Connecticut CLP identity, medical, and age requirements

Connecticut requires a commercial learner's permit before the CDL. DMV guidance says an applicant must be at least 18 for intrastate commercial driving and at least 21 for interstate operation or hazardous-material hauling. Current CLP instructions require a valid Connecticut driver license, REAL ID documentation, a Social Security number, proof of legal presence, two proofs of Connecticut residence, self-certification, and the commercial-license application. A valid medical examiner certificate must be on file; Connecticut now receives required medical certification electronically from the National Registry. DMV also checks Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse status for applicable CDL and CLP transactions.

03

Prepare for knowledge tests and complete ELDT when required

Connecticut's current general knowledge test has 50 questions and requires 40 correct answers. Air Brakes and endorsement tests have separate question counts and passing scores when they apply. First-time Class B applicants subject to federal Entry-Level Driver Training rules must complete required Class B training with a registered provider before the CDL skills test. Applicants seeking first-time passenger, school-bus, or hazardous-materials endorsements can also have separate ELDT obligations. Use the Connecticut Commercial Driver License Manual identified by DMV and match your study plan to the tests required for the vehicle and endorsements you actually intend to operate.

04

Prepare for the three-part skills evaluation and test vehicle rules

Connecticut's CDL skills-test process evaluates applicants on vehicle inspection, basic vehicle control on a static course, and on-road driving. Bring a representative vehicle for the class sought, a qualified CDL driver who can legally operate it to and from the test, your valid Connecticut driver license, commercial learner's permit, validated CDL application, and any required medical-waiver documents. The test vehicle must represent the class and privileges sought. Connecticut states that failing any part means the entire skills test is failed; the applicant must submit a new application, pay the required test fee again, and wait at least seven days before another skills test.
